Therm-X AT Cold, Heat, Contrast and Compression Therapy Portable Machine

Imagine a portable ice based machine that you don't have to keep refilling, cleaning and drying out.  Now, imagine a unit that has the capability to maintain a specific temperature for as long as you could possibly want? Introducing the Therm-X AT from Zenith Technical Innovations, which utilizes a brand new thermal control technology to treat post traumatic and post surgical conditions where localized thermal therapy is recommended. The innovative technology of the Therm-X AT allows the user to select between Heat, Cold, or Contrast, and features a wide temperature range of 34° F to 110° F.

The Therm-X AT features "digital control" which allows the unit to circulate a coolant that can maintain a specific set temperature for the entire treatment cycle, as opposed to other heat packs or ice-based machines which are known to lose temperature once they’re applied. The fluid passes through a garment with a tailored treatment area to concentrate the cold or heat where it is needed most.

  • Broad Temperature Range: The Therm-X AT features a broad temperature range of 34° F to 110° F allowing the user the select from heat therapy, cold therapy or anything in between.

  • Maintain Temperature: The Therm-X AT features digital control technology, which allows the unit to maintain a specific set temperature for the entire treatment cycle, thanks to a coolant that is circulated through the system.

  • Easy Fill Tank: This unit utilizes an "easy fill tank" that uses distilled water and
isopropyl alcohol. The tank does not require constant refilling and cleaning.

  • Intuitive Touch Screen: The Therm-X AT features an intuitive touch screen that includes pre-programmed or customized protocols, ready to use right away.

  • Designed with Portability in Mind: This unit was designed to be portable, weighing only 14 lbs. and featuring a convenient carry handle located on the top of the unit that allows for your unit to be transported anywhere in the world.

  • Liquid Cooled Technology: This unit features liquid cooled radiator and fan technology that allows the Therm-X wraps to get colder and the machine to stay quieter.

  • Built to Stay Clean: The Therm-X AT was designed to limit the amount of upkeep included with owning a cryotherapy and/or thermotherapy device. The aforementioned "easy fill tank" does not require constant refilling or cleaning, and the snap on grille filter prevents dust and debris

Fantastic - Better Than Game Ready

THERM - X. What you need to know……If you want me to bottom line it…buy it over Game Ready. There is good information below….read it.

I am a verified buyer, a clinician, and a previous owner of a Game Ready system so hopefully this review will help you make wise decisions on your next purchase.

We went into market for a new portable cold machine when the thermostat on our Game Ready broke. Game ready served us well. It has cold and compression capabilities and has cycles to allow cold then rest. It has some design issues that over the years I am surprised never seemed to be addressed. First the water / ic e chamber is difficult to access. a lot of users would like to put frozen water bottles in it but the sizing is just awkward enough that it doesn’t make it easy to do. Post op…the other down side is that you are tending to it all night adding ice to it.

THERM - X. What you need to know……If you want me to bottom line it…buy it over Game Ready. Two significant improvements. First you are not constantly adding ice to it. It cools or heats using a mixture of sterile water and rubbing alcohol. Using it constantly I find I am just topping it off every several days rather than Game Ready topping it off with ice every couple of hours.

Next…and this is important. The online brochures are not clear on the differences in their models so let me give you a brief synopsis. There are two models available (not three like the manual says - they don’t make the pro model anymore). The two models are the AT (Athletic Trainer) model and the Home Model. Here is the list of differences which might help you decide one over the other.

1. AT Model - Can run program cycles where it does cold then switches to heat. It can get as cold as 34 degrees and up to I think 110 degrees. The Home model can do cold or heat….but it can’t be programmed to do runs of alternating cold and heat like the AT model.
2. The Home model can run continuous programs of “on” and “rest” So you could say do 30 min cold then rest and then it will automatically repeat that cycle over and over. When you choose this function however….the coldest you can set it is 40 degrees. My wife just had a total knee and slept quite well with this setting and no risk of frost bite. Since the AT model is designed for in clinic use….it does NOT have this feature and that is not very clear on the product specifications. So be aware of this.
3. Both models can do cold or heat to the temperature ranges I mentioned.
4. The home model ALSO has a DVT port so you can put compression sleeves on patients for intermittent DVT prophylaxis.
5. The SLEEVES used are different between models but there is a workaround. Let me explain. The home unit comes with an umbilical that attaches to what they consider to be single use sleeves (knee, ankle, shoulder, whatever). The AT unit comes with an umbilical that attaches to sleeves that are much more durable and reusable. The umbilicals will attach to either machines but the sleeves are specifically designed to fit in one umbilical or the other. Why am I mentioning this? Because we own the HOME unit but like the more durable reusable AT sleeves. So we bought the AT umbilical and AT sleeves and plug them into the home unit. Viola!

This machine is so far ahead of the curve compared to Game Ready that I would highly recommend it. It is a worthy investment for those with orthopedic issues. Lastly, the noise from it is comparable to Game Ready so if you are familiar with those machines, the loudest part is when you have compression turned on. And it is not loud. You can sleep through it.

Hope the information and thoughts help others.
